18-Wheeler Rollover on I-20 Near Van, Texas Sends Two to Hospital

| Aug 10, 2025 | Auto Accident

Authorities report a two-vehicle crash involving an 18-wheeler on westbound I-20 near Van on August 5, 2025.  The crash was severe enough that it sent two people to the hospital. The Van Fire Department said westbound traffic backed up roughly five miles near mile marker 534. One westbound lane was closed as a result.

Why 18-Wheeler Rollovers Happen

Truck crash investigations tend to examine recurring risk drivers and motor carriers must control:

  • Equipment and inspections. Skipped or superficial pre-trip inspection checks can miss worn brakes, steering issues, and lighting defects that become critical at highway speeds.
  • Fatigue and scheduling pressure. Drowsy driving reduces reaction time and lane control; audits of driver fatigue and hours of service regulations often follow serious wrecks.
  • Mechanical failures. Sudden brake failure or a tire blowout can push a tractor-trailer out of its lane or start a rollover sequence—sometimes raising product liability questions.
  • Load shift and maneuvering. Aggressive steering inputs to avoid traffic, combined with a high center of gravity or shifting cargo, can tip a rig during braking or on a curve.
  • Data preservation. Electronic control modules record speed, braking, and fault codes. Early preservation of black box data and driver logs is often decisive for a truck accident lawyer pursuing accountability.

When companies ignore well known hazards, a jury may evaluate whether they have committed gross negligence and, in appropriate cases, award punitive damages to the crash victims.

Injuries and Your Right to Compensation

Rollover and barrier-area impacts can cause spinal trauma, fractures, internal bleeding, and other serious and catastrophic injuries—including spinal injury. Victims may pursue economic damages (medical bills, lost wages) and non-economic damages (pain, mental anguish, loss of enjoyment of life). Proving fault requires meeting the burden of proof with preserved evidence—scene photos, witness statements, ECM downloads, maintenance and dispatch records—which a trucking accident attorney knows how to secure quickly. Legal deadlines apply; claims must be filed before the statute of limitations expires.

What to Do After a Truck Rollover Crash

  • Get checked out. Even if you feel “okay,” seek immediate medical attention to document injuries and protect your health.
  • Preserve the record. Photograph vehicles, road conditions, debris fields, skid marks, and visible injuries; keep medical and repair paperwork.
  • Call an experienced lawyer early. 18-wheeler accident lawyers can send preservation letters for ECM data and schedules, coordinate inspections, and address calls from insurers so you can focus on recovery.
