Recall Snapshot
Doehler Dry Ingredient Solutions has recalled 22 lots of Member’s Mark Freeze-Dried Fruit Variety Packs sold exclusively at Sam’s Club between July 1 and July 25, 2025. According to the FDA, internal testing detected Listeria monocytogenes, a pathogen that can cause life-threatening illness in young children, pregnant women and anyone with a weakened immune system. The affected boxes (UPC 1 93968 50900 2) contain 15 single-serve pouches of strawberries, bananas and apples.
Why Listeria Contamination Happens
Freeze-drying removes moisture but not bacteria already present on raw fruit. If equipment isn’t sanitized or finished product contacts contaminated surfaces, Listeria can survive and multiply—even at refrigerator temperatures. Because Member’s Mark snacks are eaten straight from the pouch, there is no cooking step to kill the organism before it reaches consumers.
Health Risks and Symptoms
Listeria infection can trigger fever, muscle aches, and gastrointestinal distress within days—or weeks—of exposure. In high-risk groups, it may invade the bloodstream or central nervous system, leading to meningitis, miscarriage or stillbirth. Learn more about warning signs in our guide to Listeria infections and the broader dangers of food poisoning.
Safety tip: Dispose of recalled pouches in a sealed bag and disinfect any storage containers. If you experience high fever, severe headache, or persistent stomach cramps, seek immediate medical attention and tell your doctor about the recall.
Legal Options for Consumers
When a contaminated food product reaches store shelves, injured buyers may pursue:
- A class action that pools dozens of small claims into one lawsuit, increasing leverage in settlement talks.
- A personal injury lawsuit, seeking recovery of medical bills, lost workdays, and other economic damages. Courts sometimes add punitive damages if food-safety violations show reckless disregard for public health.
Families must still meet the burden of proof—so prompt testing and careful documentation are critical. Each state sets its own statute of limitations, making early legal guidance essential.
Next Steps if You Were Affected
- Document everything. Photograph the box, UPC, and lot code before disposal.
- See a doctor for any flu-like symptoms and request a Listeria culture.
- Preserve medical records and receipts showing purchase location and date.
- Contact an attorney to explore individual or class action remedies.
