Man Shot at Houston Apartment Complex Near NRG Stadium After Reported Robbery

by | Nov 10, 2025 | Personal Injury

Police are investigating a shooting early Sunday, November 9, 2025 at the Morgan Apartment Homes on Westridge Street near NRG Stadium that left a 22-year-old man critically injured. Officers responded around 2 a.m. and found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound. Investigators believe the same suspects may have robbed him at gunpoint only hours earlier, around midnight.

According to Houston Police, the victim sought help within the complex before officers arrived and applied a tourniquet. He was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition. Authorities have not yet released the victim’s name or provided a description of the suspects.

Potential Premises Liability and Security Concerns

Apartment complexes are responsible for maintaining safe environments for residents and guests. When shootings or robberies occur on the property, investigators often evaluate whether the property owner or management company took reasonable steps to deter foreseeable crime.

Common safety failures that can lead to violent incidents include:

Each of these areas will likely factor into the investigation if it’s shown that stronger safety measures could have prevented the robbery and subsequent shooting.

Legal Rights and Options for Victims of Apartment Violence

Victims of gun violence or armed robbery at apartment complexes may have multiple legal avenues for recovery. These claims often rely on showing that management failed to provide adequate protection despite known risks.

Key legal considerations include:

  • Premises liability — Property owners owe a duty to maintain reasonably safe conditions and to take action when violent crimes are foreseeable.
  • Negligence and gross negligence. When owners or management companies disregard known security threats, victims may also seek gross negligence damages to hold them accountable.
  • Recoverable damages. Injured individuals may seek economic damages for past and future medical bills and lost wages, as well as non-economic damages for pain, trauma, and emotional distress.
  • Evidence preservation. Victims or their attorneys should act quickly to send a preservation letter requesting surveillance footage, police reports, and maintenance logs before they are lost or destroyed.

The Role of Foreseeability and Duty of Care

Texas law evaluates whether a property owner knew or should have known that criminal acts were likely to occur. If similar incidents have been documented in or around the property, management has a duty to respond with heightened safety measures—such as hiring guards, repairing gates, or improving lighting. Failing to take those steps can lead to liability when tenants or guests are injured in preventable attacks. Courts assess whether similar crimes in the area made the danger foreseeable and whether the owner’s response met their duty of care.
