Dupray Neat Steam Cleaners Recalled After Reports of Boiler Ruptures and Injuries

by | Mar 1, 2026 | Personal Injury, Product Recalls

More than 600,000 Dupray Neat Steam Cleaners have been recalled after reports that the unit’s boiler can rupture, posing a risk of burns and other injuries. The recall involves model number DUP020WNA, sold nationwide from April 2018 through December 2025 for approximately $150 at retailers including Walmart, Amazon, Home Depot, Lowe’s, Macy’s, and through dupray.com.

According to the recall notice, the boiler can rupture if it is overfilled, becomes corroded, or if the pressure release valve malfunctions. These failures create a risk of burn injuries and other trauma to users or bystanders.

The portable cleaner features a white base connected to a black flexible hose and includes an accessory kit with brushes, tools, a Velcro pad, and dust cloths. Recalled units have batch/date codes 0118-01 through 0425-05, which can be found on the rating label on the bottom of the cleaner.

Reported Injuries and Property Damage

The company has received 15 reports of boiler ruptures. These incidents include four reports of minor burns, bruises, lacerations, and a broken wrist. At least seven reports involve minor property damage.

When pressurized household devices rupture, the injuries can extend beyond superficial burns. Depending on the force of the failure and proximity to the user, victims may suffer crush injuries, fractures, or scalding injuries that require significant medical treatment. In more severe cases, defective household appliances have been associated with serious and catastrophic injuries.

Product Liability Concerns

When a household appliance fails in a way that causes injury, legal claims often fall under product liability law. These cases may involve allegations of design defects, manufacturing defects, or failure to warn consumers about known risks.

If a boiler ruptures because a pressure release valve malfunctions or because the design allows dangerous pressure buildup, that may raise questions about whether the product was unreasonably dangerous. A defective pressure system in a consumer appliance can sometimes be characterized as a defective product under applicable law.

In situations where numerous consumers experience similar failures, litigation may also proceed as a class action, particularly if the claims involve common design or manufacturing issues affecting a large number of units.

What Consumers Should Do

Consumers are instructed to stop using the recalled steam cleaner immediately. To receive a free replacement safety boiler cap, customers must visit dupray.com and follow the recall instructions. The batch/date code located on the bottom of the cleaner will be required to determine eligibility.

If someone has already been injured, it is important to preserve the product in its current condition. Keeping the unit, packaging, and proof of purchase can be important evidence in any potential claim.

In addition, seeking prompt medical evaluation is critical after a boiler rupture or steam-related injury. Even burns that initially appear minor can worsen over time or result in complications.

Legal Options After an Injury Caused by a Defective Appliance

When a consumer product causes injury, the injured party may be entitled to recover economic damages such as medical bills and lost wages, as well as non-economic damages for pain, suffering, and other losses.

Establishing liability typically requires demonstrating the burden of proof that the product was defective and that the defect caused the injury. That analysis often involves expert review of the product’s design, testing history, and failure mode to establish causation.
