Mother and Daughter Killed in Three-Vehicle Crash on Highway 62 in Jasper County

by | Mar 7, 2026 | Auto Accident, Wrongful Death

A tragic car accident in Jasper County, Texas, on the evening of March 6, 2026, left two people dead following a three-vehicle collision on Highway 62. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the crash occurred around 8:00 p.m. near County Road 825 when a Dodge pickup traveling northbound crossed into the southbound lane and collided with two vehicles.

Authorities said the Dodge pickup first struck a southbound Honda and then a Chevrolet pickup truck. The driver of the Chevrolet, a 35-year-old woman from Groves, Texas, and a 13-year-old female passenger were pronounced dead at the scene by a Justice of the Peace. Their identities have not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.

How Cross-Lane Collisions Often Lead to Fatal Crashes

When a vehicle crosses into oncoming traffic, the resulting impact is frequently severe. Head-on or near head-on crashes can occur with little time for drivers to react, especially on rural highways where traffic speeds are often high.

Collisions involving multiple vehicles can amplify the force of impact and increase the likelihood of deadly outcomes. In serious highway crashes like this one, investigators often examine driver actions, road conditions, and vehicle movements to determine what caused the collision and whether negligence contributed to the event.

Investigations After Multi-Vehicle Collisions

Following a fatal crash, law enforcement agencies typically conduct a detailed investigation into what occurred in the moments leading up to the collision. Officials may review vehicle damage, roadway markings, driver statements, and other available evidence to determine how the crash unfolded.

Investigators may also document the scene in an official accident report, which can later play an important role in understanding the facts of the collision. Witness accounts, vehicle positions, and roadway conditions may help establish causation, particularly when determining why a vehicle entered the wrong lane.

In some cases, investigators also rely on reconstruction specialists and crash reconstruction analysis to better understand vehicle speeds, impact angles, and driver actions before the collision.

Legal Issues That May Arise After a Fatal Highway Crash

When a driver crosses into oncoming traffic and causes a fatal collision, surviving family members may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim. These claims seek compensation for the losses suffered by the family of a person who died due to another party’s negligence.

In addition to a wrongful death case, the estate of the deceased may also bring a survival claim, which addresses the damages the victim experienced before death.

In cases where other individuals are injured in the crash, they may have a separate personal injury claim for the harm they suffered. Depending on the circumstances, compensation may include economic damages such as medical expenses and lost income, as well as non-economic damages for emotional suffering and other losses.

Families may also pursue damages for the loss of their loved one’s companionship and support, including loss of companionship in cases involving fatal crashes.
