A small aircraft was destroyed after crashing and catching fire shortly after takeoff near South Fork, Colorado, on June 10, 2026.
According to reports, the single-engine aircraft departed from Chapman Field Airport and experienced engine trouble shortly after becoming airborne. The pilot reportedly attempted to reach Chapman Field for an emergency landing, but the aircraft crashed in a field east of South Fork near Shoshone Trail.
South Fork Fire Rescue arrived at the scene and found the aircraft engulfed in flames. The crash also ignited a grass fire, creating additional concerns because the area was under a Red Flag Warning with strong winds and extremely dry conditions.
Despite the severity of the accident and the post-crash fire, both occupants were able to exit the aircraft before emergency crews arrived.
