by | Nov 13, 2021 | Industrial Accident, Personal Injury, Wrongful Death

Reports indicate a chemical leak and explosion occurred at the X-FAB manufacturing plant in Lubbock, Texas on November 12, 2021.  The facility is located at 2301 North University.  The plant was undergoing maintenance on the DI water system at the time of the flash explosion.  One person has been killed in the incident, with one additional worker being hospitalized.  It is unclear what led to the explosion at this time.  Six contractors were injured during the event, and were taken to local hospitals for treatment.

There have been a number of incidents at industrial and processing plants.  There was an explosion at Westlake Chemical’s Petro Complex in Lake Charles, Louisiana on September 27, 2021. There was a massive fire at the Goldman Recycling Plant in Little Rock, Arkansas on September 21, 2021.  There was an explosion at a Savannah, Georgia facility on September 14, 2021.  There was an explosion at the James Oxygen & Supply facility located in Hickory, North Carolina on September 3, 2021.

Plants can pose significant dangers both to workers and to the general public.  When dangerous work is involved, extra precautions must be taken, especially when catastrophic fires or explosions can occur.  Although at this time it is not known what caused this incident, safe plant operators must always ensure that equipment is regularly inspected and safely maintained.  Not only can an incident like this result in a catastrophic impact on the environment, but it can also result in a loss of life.
