by | Jan 2, 2022 | Maritime Law, Wrongful Death

There was a deadly accident on the general cargo ship TIKSY on December 31, 2021.  At the time, the vessel was in the Barents Sea en route to Arkhangelsk, Russia.  During poor weather, cargo on the vessel began to shift.  As the Bosun and other crew members attempted to secure the cargo containers, one of them crushed the Bosun.  It is unknown if any other crew members were injured in the incident.  The vessel is owned and operated by TK Nord Project LLC.

There have been a number of recent incidents involving vessels.  A fire broke out on the general cargo ship AAL DALIAN on December 8, 2021 while the vessel was in Houston, Texas.  There was an outbreak of COVID-19 on the container ship ROME EXPRESS.  There was a fire on board the ro-ro cargo ship Frijsenborg on December 24, 2021.  A recreational boat struck a jetty near Fort Pierce, Florida on December 25, 2021.  There has been a deadly COVID-19 outbreak on the bulk carrier TZAREVNA.

Safe maritime companies must perform regular maintenance and inspections in order to ensure the safety of their crew members.  When ship operators fail to conduct regular maintenance and inspection of the equipment on their vessels, dangerous incidents can result.  This not only puts the lives of hardworking seamen at risk, but can also endanger members of the public.
