Fire on Tanker Ship ALMUNTAZAH

by | Jan 23, 2022 | Maritime Law

There was a fire on the tanker vessel ALMUNTAZAH on January 22, 2022.  At the time, the vessel was in the Black Sea off the Coast of Russia.  Reports indicate the fire began in the vessel’s engine room.  Some crew members are believed to have initially evacuated from the vessel before fighting the fire.  It is unclear what led to the fire, or if any crew members were injured in firefighting efforts.

There have been a number of recent incidents involving vessels.  There has been a COVID-19 outbreak on the container ship MSC BRANKA.  There has been a COVID-19 outbreak on the container ship CAPE KORTIA.  There was a fire on the fishing boat Jenna Dawn on January 1, 2022.

Safe maritime companies must perform regular maintenance and inspections in order to ensure the safety of their crew members.  When ship operators fail to conduct regular maintenance and inspection of the equipment on their vessels, dangerous incidents can result.  This not only puts the lives of hardworking seamen at risk, but can also endanger members of the public.
