Sightseeing Vessel CORMORANT 1 Sinks near Galapagos Islands

There was a fire in the engine room of the CORMORANT 1 on May 11, 2022.  At the time, the vessel was in the Galapagos Islands.  The boat sank as a result of the fire.  There were a total of twenty-five people on board, who were rescued.  It is unclear if anyone was injured.  It is unknown at this time what caused the fire to break out.

There have been a number of recent incidents involving vessels.  There was a fire on board the cargo ship KELLY ALAFIA on April 22, 2022.  The Japanese tour boat KAZU 1 capsized on April 23, 2022 with twenty-six people on board.  There was a deadly boating accident in Savannah, Georgia on May 5, 2022.  There was an explosion on the chemical tanker GULF PETROLEUM 4 on May 6, 2022.
