A recreational boating accident can be the result of many factors, including: human error, weather conditions, equipment failure, poor maintenance practices, waves caused by other vessels, or a lack of equipment.  An incident can often be a result of a combination of the above factors.  Ultimately though, many of these incidents are preventable.

Over 5,000 boating accidents occur each year, resulting in over 700 deaths. However, most of these accidents are preventable if boaters take the proper precautions. Before heading out on the water, it is essential to check the weather forecast and be aware of any potential storms.
