There was a deadly mass poisoning event on the bulk carrier WU ZHOU 8 on September 30, 2022. At the time, the vessel was in the Gulf of Thailand. During the incident, all twenty-one crew members are believed to have suffered from food poisoning. The source of the poisoning is unknown. Ten crew members died on board the vessel, before rescue vessels could assist the ship. The remaining twelve crew were taken by the rescue vessel to a hospital in Con Dao Islands.
