The tug boat SEA CYPRESS capsized in Sabine Pass, Texas on March 31, 2023. At the time, the boat was en route from Port Arthur, with two barges in tow. During the incident, the vessel began taking on water while moored at the mouth of the Sabine River. A boat from the Sabine Pilots arrived and was able to assist. Two crew members from the tug used a blow torch to cut through the listing vessel in order to free two others trapped in the vessel’s galley. A Coast Guard boat also arrived to rescue the workers. The vessel is owned and operated by Garber Bros., Inc. Additional details have not yet been released.
