There was a fire on board the offshore pipelaying vessel SKANDI BUZIOS on June 2, 2023.  At the time, the vessel was docked at Porto do Açu, in São João da Barra, Rio de Janeiro.  According to reports, a fire broke out on the vessel.  The ship is owned by TechDOF, a joint venture TechnipFMC and DOF Subsea.  The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

There have been a number of recent incidents involving vessels.  Two jet skis collided on Mountain Island Lake in North Carolina on May 14, 2023.  There was a deadly accident on the bulk carrier SASEBO ECO on May 11, 2023.  There was a fire on the product tanker ATA VOYAGER on May 18, 2023.  There was a fire on the tanker ship XANTE on May 18, 2023.  There was a fire on the bulk carrier CAPE TOWN EAGLE on May 30, 2023.  There was a collision between two boats on James River in Virginia on May 30, 2023.

It can be dangerous to work in any industry when safety considerations are not taken seriously.  Safe offshore vessel owners and operators must ensure that their ships do not put the lives of hard working men and women at risk.  Safe companies must be proactive and take preventative measures, including regular maintenance and repairs, to also ensure that the environment is not impacted.
