Work Boat Sinks in Corpus Christi Ship Channel

by | Jun 11, 2023 | Maritime Law

A vessel sank in the Corpus Christi Ship Channel on June 9, 2023.  There were four people on board the workboat when it sank Friday night.  At the time, the boat was in between the Harbor Bridge and the La Quinta Channel.  It is unknown if anyone was injured.  Traffic in the ship channel was restricted in that location as a result.

There have been a number of recent incidents involving vessels.  There was a fire on the bulk carrier CAPE TOWN EAGLE on May 30, 2023.  There was a collision between two boats on James River in Virginia on May 30, 2023.  There was a fire on board the offshore pipelaying vessel SKANDI BUZIOS on June 2, 2023.  There was a fire on the cruise ship WILDERNESS DISCOVERER on June 5, 2023.  There was a fire on the container ship MSC RITA on June 6, 2023.

It can be dangerous to work in any industry when safety considerations are not taken seriously.  Safe offshore vessel owners and operators must ensure that their ships do not put the lives of hard working men and women at risk.  Safe companies must be proactive and take preventative measures, including regular maintenance and repairs, to also ensure that the environment is not impacted.
