Two Jet Blue Planes Collide on Tarmac at Logan International Airport

by | Feb 9, 2024 | Aviation Accident

Two Jet Blue planes collided in Boston, Massachusetts on February 7, 2024.  The incident happened on the tarmac at Logan International Airport.  The collision occurred at deicing stations at the airport.  It is unclear if anyone was injured as a result.

The risk of planes colliding on the tarmac at an airport, also known as a “ramp incident” or “ground collision,” represents a significant safety concern within aviation operations. Such incidents often occur during taxiing, takeoff, landing, or while being towed. The bustling environment of an airport, where multiple aircraft are maneuvering in close proximity to one another, significantly increases the likelihood of these events. Factors contributing to the risk include miscommunication between pilots and air traffic control, visibility issues, especially in poor weather conditions or at night, and human error. These collisions can lead to substantial damage to aircraft, disruptions in airport operations, and, most critically, injuries to passengers and crew. Ensuring stringent adherence to safety protocols, enhancing communication systems, and employing advanced technology for ground traffic management are vital measures to mitigate the risk of such potentially catastrophic incidents.
