by | Dec 5, 2022 | Maritime Law, Wrongful Death

There was a deadly incident on a tourist ship off the coast of Colombia on November 27, 2022.  During the incident, a tourist dove into the water to retrieve her flip flops.  As she swam under the water she was hit by a boat’s propeller on her legs, butt and lower back.   The victim was taken to shore on a jet ski to receive medical treatment.  She was pronounced dead the following day.  The victim has been identified as Natalia Andrea Larranaga Fajardo from California.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to those impacted by this deadly incident.

There have been a number of recent incidents involving vessels.  There was a fire on the chemical tanker vessel ATLANTIC LILY on November 18, 2022.  On November 18, 2022, Seacor Marine evacuated the Lift Boat Robert.  A crew member’s hand was amputated on the LADY OF LUCK on November 26, 2022.  There was a fire on board the fishing trawler SUNFISH on November 27, 2022.  The shrimp boat CAPTAIN ALEX sunk on November 25, 2022.  The jack-up rig LIFTBOAT DANIELA sunk on November 30, 2022.  There was a deadly incident on the VIKING POLARIS cruise ship on November 29, 2022.

It can be dangerous to work in any industry when safety considerations are not taken seriously.  Safe tour companies must ensure that their ships do not put the lives of their passengers or workers at risk.  Safe companies must be proactive and take preventative measures.
