There was an oil spill on the Mississippi River near Natchez, Mississippi on June 10, 2023. According to the Coast Guard, it was contacted by Kirby Inland Marine in order to report an oil discharge from one of its barges. The barge was part of the tow of the vessel Leviticus. 3,400 gallons are believed to have been discharged into the river. The incident remains under investigation. Cleanup operations are currently being conducted.
