There was a deadly explosion on the product tanker TORC on January 8, 2024. At the time, the vessel was in the Mediterranean Sea headed to Italy. According to reports an explosion occurred in the boiler in the vessel’s engine room, killing the second engineer. The engineer survived the initial explosion and the ship was coordinating medical evacuation when he was pronounced deceased. The incident remains under investigation.
